The mission
of The Center for Grief and Loss for Children ("The Center")
is to provide a supportive environment, in partnership with the
caring community of therapists, clinicians and volunteers, to
bereaved families and hurting children to re-establish secure
family relationships after a death or separation from a loved
one.
While infants,
children and teens eventually seem to recover from the loss of
primary attachment figures, there is considerable evidence that
the loss can have profound effects on psychological development.
Many fail to receive grief intervention. This results in communities
of children and teens who live with guilt and unresolved issues
into adulthood that often impedes their ability to bond and develop
successful relationships with other people.
